The first-ever Palmetto Game Jam hits Charleston this November

, ,

Years from now you can look back on November 12th and 13th, 2016 and say “I competed in the very first Palmetto Game Jam.  It was intense, joyful, grueling, and beautiful all at the same time.  I worked with a small team to make a functioning video game in 24 hours.  I don’t remember our scores or if we even placed, but I remember making friends, professional contacts, and continuously learning from one another.”

The overview:

The Palmetto Game Jam Series at The Iron Yard is your chance to nerd out with others from Charleston-area tech companies who share your passion for video games.  The inaugural event is limited to 10 teams comprising of 4 to 6 people (so if you want in on the action – register soon!). And the coolest part is that three veteran video game developers from Atlanta-based Kiz Studios will judge the games and offer useful feedback before declaring their winner.

Interested in competing? Some other details:

  1. The clock will start with the announcement of a theme randomly selected from a hat filled with themes created by the judges.  It will be something abstract like “Renegade” and it’s up to your team to do whatever you want with that theme.
  2. Hardware is not being provided so you will have to BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer), but snacks will be provided. You may use whatever tool set you prefer (Unity3D, GameMaker, Unreal, html, etc.) and the game must be playable on PC.
  3. Once you’ve signed up on the Eventbrite page, you’ll get a confirmation email with additional information (and tips for how to win!) from the folks at Atlatl Software who are putting on this genius event.
  4. Above all, this is to have some fun!
